MECCA2MEDINA
Mecca2Medina have been in existence for eleven years. The group was formed by Rakin Fetuga after he was given advice by his Sheikh to continue using his musical talents to make Islamic music, The music created by the group is conscious hip hop with a ragga twist. The aim is to educate and enlighten the listener. All of the members converted to Islam and you can hear the influence of this in their lyrics.
Mecca 2 Medina have produced three nasheed albums (Islamic songs). From West Looking East, African Sounds and Proud to be a Muslim. These were aimed mainly at Muslim audiences and used an African style drumbeat as a backing track.
As well as producing nasheed albums the boys have also produced two hip hop albums and two mini albums. These were: - Mecca Experience, Revolutionary Rap, Truthseekers and Seeing Through the Smoke. This has helped the group to have a mixed fan base which has both Religious and non-religious supporters.
The group’s hip hop ragga music focuses on social topics as well as religious. They touch on topics such as: the problems with drug abuse, honour killing, forced marriages, gangs, racism, sexism, respect for parents and the importance of education. They have collaborated with several artists from all over the world from Napoleon a US rapper who was previously in Tupac’s Outlawz to Raihan a famous Malaysian nasheed group.
